Gentle Weaning From Breastfeeding

A gentle, responsive approach to reducing or stopping breastfeeding.

The antenatal breastfeeding preparation you didn't know you needed

Thinking about stopping breastfeeding can bring up all sorts of feelings. You might be ready to stop completely, want to reduce daytime feeds, or be thinking about night weaning.

Whatever your reason, you don’t have to stop suddenly or figure it out alone.

This personalised 1:1 online session helps you create a calm, realistic plan for weaning from breastfeeding that considers both you and your baby.

Thinking about stopping breastfeeding?

You might be wondering:

“Where do I start?”

“How do I stop breastfeeding without upsetting my baby?”

“How do I reduce night feeds?”

“What can I offer my baby instead?”

We can work through these questions together and create a plan that feels manageable for you.

Is this for you?

This session may be right for you if:

  • You’re thinking about stopping breastfeeding but don’t know where to start
  • You want to reduce daytime or night feeds
  • You’re considering night weaning
  • Your baby relies on breastfeeding for comfort or sleep
  • You’re worried about how your baby will respond to weaning
  • You want a gradual, responsive approach to stopping breastfeeding
  • You’d like support and reassurance throughout the process

What we'll focus on

We’ll look at your current breastfeeding pattern, your reasons for weaning and what you’d like to achieve.

Together we’ll explore:

  • How to gradually reduce breastfeeding feeds
  • Gentle ways to approach night weaning
  • Strategies to support your baby through change
  • Alternative ways to comfort and settle your baby
  • Managing the emotions that can come with weaning
  • Creating a personalised and realistic weaning plan
  • If your baby is under 12 months, how to safely replace dropped breastfeeds, including the role of first infant formula where appropriate

This isn’t about cutting feeds quickly. It’s about finding a pace that works for you and your baby.

What famalies have to say about my Gentle Weaning Session

“I wanted to start trying for my second baby and knew I had to reduce or stop feeding my (almost) 2-year-old. I was so scared and nervous, as breastfeeding was their everything. With Vicky’s help, we managed to first night-wean and then keep a ‘reconnection’ feed during the day. This was such a gentle and simple process. Having Vicky on WhatsApp meant I could ask questions and get her reassurance during those tricky times. Thank you so much for your patience and help.”

Gradually reducing feeds can give both you and your baby time to adjust. Your session will help you create a personalised plan based on your little’s age, feeding pattern and your goals.

Night weaning can be approached gradually and responsively. We’ll look at your current night feeds and discuss gentle strategies for reducing them while supporting your little with other ways of settling and comforting.

There isn’t one set timeframe. Some parents reduce feeds over a few weeks, while others take longer. Your plan will be based on what feels realistic and manageable for you and your little.

It’s completely normal for your little to have feelings about changes to their usual feeding routine. We’ll discuss ways to offer comfort, connection and reassurance while gradually reducing feeds.

This depends on your baby’s age. If your baby is under 12 months, breast milk or first infant formula should remain their main milk source. We’ll discuss how to safely replace feeds that you decide to drop.
